Hebrews 12:2 "SEEK FIRST"

"Seek First" is a platform inspired from Matthew 6:33 where we are encouraged to Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, live righteously, and everything we need will be given to us.

Our objective is to show you the practicality of this verse and hopefully inspire you to seek Him first daily. We use the S.O.A.P model as a study guide to help fulfill this mandate. We pick different scriptures and try to figure out how we can apply them to our lives, how they relate to the Kingdom of God and how we can live righteously through them

(S)cripture: Hebrews 12:2 "We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the Champion who Initiates and Perfects our Faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding the shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside Gods throne"

(O)bservation: Whenever i read verses that start like this, it is usually an indicator that i need to go back for context...why are we encouraged to keep our eyes on Jesus? Verse 1 helps us clarify it "...let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up..."

In other words, if you are dealing with a sin that seems to be dominating you, might be an addiction to pornography, telling lies regularly, corrupt practices you can't seem to say NO to at work etc, the writer of Hebrews (Paul) admonishes us to focus on Jesus in order to deal with these sins.

Focus is an incredible word, it literally means to "Concentrate", it's like zooming into an object on your phone, you'll begin to see things you couldn't see from afar. Most people seem to know Jesus from a distance, but something happens when you zoom into Him. Hebrews 12:2 describes this focus as the ability to "keep our eyes on Him"

(A)pplication: I find that meditation works a lot for me when i try to focus...i read a story about Jesus in one of the Gospels, close my eyes and try to paint a picture of the text in my mind.

I think of situations i am currently going through and ask "What would Jesus do?", when i go outside i think of how the Word of God (Jesus) created everything i can see.
Fasting is also another way of enhancing your focus on Him and getting rid of any sins that may be holding you back...silencing the desires of your flesh.

One practical solution would be setting an alarm through out the day to remind yourself of Jesus...how would Jesus deal with your sin? how would He deal with your situation right now?

Finally, we all need to start our day right...seek Him first in the morning as soon as you wake up, say a prayer and practice listening. Just close your eyes and envision Him, if you start your day this way, you will have the peace that surpasses all understanding for the rest of the day.

(P)rayer: In every situation Father, help me focus on You. Initiate and Perfect my faith in every single area of my life Lord...i need You more and more everyday. You are the One who started my journey, You are the One who will Sustain and Perfect it. I ask for the wisdom to continually keep my eyes on You, show me more practical ways to see you in everything i do...You are everywhere, i am the one who just can't see You...open my eyes Father. In Jesus Name

It's your turn, find a verse that sticks out to you, use the S.O.A.P model and share them with us
