Robert Mugabe Resigns! But Is Zimbabwe Ready For New Wine?

Robert Mugabe was finally forced to resign as President of Zimbabwe after 37years in office. I will not go into the history of a man who was once considered to be the Mandela of his country, or how 'GUCCI' Grace eventually became the Delilah that would make the giant cookie crumble

It is amazing to see something so historic happen in that part of the world, but at the same time, i am struggling to be optimistic about what the future holds for them.
I read an illustration this morning that conformed my doubts; "And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined"

My fear for Zimbabwe is that Mugabe has just resigned only to give power to another version of himself. A New President who goes into old systems and structures without the intention of changing them will eventually end up ruining the nation.

The next 6months will be very critical for Zimbabwe, what reforms are going to be proposed? what laws are going to be enforced? These are the questions that will need to be answered by the new leadership in order for us to predict where this nation is truly heading.

My other concern is that the military was solely responsible for Mugabe's resignation, doesn't that suggest that the power really lies with them and not its citizens? If we are to use the Nigerian case study as an example, this will not be the beginning of a new era, but the emancipation of an old one manifesting itself in various Robert Mugabe's sharing the power and resources of the state.

The only way Zimbabwe will really fulfill its potential as a nation, is to bring a candidate outside of the current system in 2018 (New Wine) and reform the old system that has encouraged endemic corruption & impunity (New Wineskin).

Communicating a vision for the next 50years, will determine the kind of laws that will need to be passed and enforced now, it will determine the systems and structures that will need to be implemented in order to produce citizens that will not just be motivated by the next election, but for the next generation!

I really hope and pray Zimbabwe will be the tipping point for revolutions in other countries like Nigeria, Angola & Venezuela! Enough is Enough...
