Are You Self Made? Think Again! [Deut. 8:17-18]

(S)cripture:

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 (MSG) "If you start thinking to yourselves, 'I did all this. And all by myself. I'm rich. It's all mine' - well, think again. Remember that God, your God, gave you the strength (or power) to produce all this wealth so as to confirm the covenant that He promised to your ancestors - as it is today"

(O)bservation:

I once unconsciously spoke to the branches of a tree, i told them how beautiful they were, and how their leaves & fruits just looked luscious and ripe, but then i had an "Eve in the Garden of Eden" moment, they responded.

They spoke of how strong and sturdy they were, and how the ripeness of the fruits depended solely on their ability to produce them, i was puzzled for a second, looking at the position of the tree to the adequate sunlight they were currently receiving and how strong the trees roots were. I was confused! How could these branches not be aware of the main reason(s) they were able to produce such fruits? Then i told them what God told the children of Israel in Deuteronomy 8:17 "...Think again"

Aren't we all like these little branches at some point in our lives? We think the jobs we have, houses we live in, cars we drive and the millions or even hundreds we have in our bank accounts are as a result of how diligent and hardworking we are, the message for you today is to "...Think again"

Just like the branches didn't realise their ability to produce beautiful leaves and fruits was based on several factors outside their control, we as human beings tend to forget that it is the strength that has been given to us free of charge, that makes us go to work everyday to earn a living.

Healthy roots produce Healthy fruits! When your life is rooted in God, He gives you the strength & power to produce Wealth.

Now, i know you must be thinking, there are loads of people who aren't rooted in God but are still wealthy, what's the deal with that?

The truth is, Gods definition of wealth is different from yours, Gods definition of wealth isn't just to have a lot of money, He wants our spirits to be connected with His so we can have an eternal relationship with Him, He wants us to be healthy in our minds and in our body's, He wants our marriages to blossom and be a reflection of His image, He wants our children to live lives of purpose while serving Him, He wants us to be charitable givers and to become people who control money, not money controlling us. This is what true wealth looks like!

A terminally sick billionaire isn't wealthy, a real estate mogul who has no relationship with God isn't wealthy, an investment banker with multiple Ferrari's who has been divorced 3 times and his children want nothing to do with him isn't wealthy...they are all poor people with loads of money. What a life! Which would you rather be?

Gods desire for His children...Genesis 12:2 "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you"

(A)pplication:

The words "...think again" will be put on my calendar app to remind me every morning, it is a privilege to have strength. The wealth i am creating isn't just because of my hardwork, it is because God wants to prove and confirm He is a covenant keeping God with us.

(P)rayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me remember at all times, that i am nothing without You. I ask for the Grace to live a balanced life, a life that is not focused on just making money, but a life centred around seeking your kingdom first in everything that i do. Let my marriage heal other marriages, let the money you give to me be used to bless others, let my children be a blessing to their generation and let my life inspire people to know You more in Jesus Name!
