1 Corinthians 8:9-13 "Should Christians Drink Alcohol?" SEEK FIRST

I remember when i was trying to raise money for my business a few years ago, i had gone to give a product demonstration at an event in 2012, and at the end of my presentation i was approached by a journalist who requested my partner and I give an interview. We didn't think much of it, but a few weeks later, that interview went viral, which ultimately peaked the interest of someone who sent us an email offering to invest in our company.


We were beyond elated, the company needed a boost..so, we quickly set up a meeting with the potential investor, at which point he asked us how much we needed. Based on our projections and company valuation, we decided to sell 20% of the company for N20million ($60,000) in order to expand our product offerings. He immediately said he had the money, and would be willing to invest based on certain conditions, we had to draw up a contract, have a business plan, show how his money would be spent, meet with the board of directors etc


When i left the meeting that day, i remember thinking we should be receiving a credit alert within a month, but 3 months went by, another 6months waved goodbye...it took us almost 2 years before any money was ever received.

Here's my point, when we ask God for things, those things are available, but are we prepared to receive them?

John 16:24 says "...ask anything in my name, and you will receive , and you will have abundant joy"

A lot of us ask God for things and treat Him like the genie in Aladdin, but we fail to recognise we also have a part to play in receiving them. It is called preparation!!!

Our hearts need to be filled with the right motives, James 4:2-3 "...yet you don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong- you want only what will give you pleasure"

When i asked for the funds from the investor, my motives were different at first but over the course of  almost 2years preparing documents and doing research that would appeal to him, my motives got refined and refocused on the right things. Sometimes, when we don't receive, it is because God is still preparing us, He is still refining our motives so that when we receive, it won't harm us.


Luke 11:11 "You fathers - if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!"

You may have been asking for $1m, but think about it...would $1m draw you closer to God or closer to Sin? Why don't you focus instead on preparing your heart to receive, focus on discovering what God wants you to have. His number one desire, is to have a relationship with you, and that can only happen when you come through His Son Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:4 "...all who Believe in Jesus are made right with God"

- Ask according to Gods word in the Name of Jesus (1 John 5:14)
- Enter with Thanksgiving & Praise (Psalm 100:4)
- Meditate and believe in the scriptures (you can read my piece on the importance of meditation here)
- Declare what you believe (Mark 11:23)
- Come with boldness (Hebrews 4:16)
- Be patient and stand in faith (Hebrews 10:36)
